CCPC Internal Medicine Chief Resident Position

Job Purpose: The Chief Resident is a clinical, administrative and leadership position within CCPC (Critical Care and Pulmonary Consultants) and the HealthONE Internal Medicine residency training program based at Sky Ridge Medical Center (Lone Tree, Colorado). The chief resident provides leadership and support of the key missions of the residency program ,functions as a mentor and advocates for the residents. The chief resident functions as a liaison between residents, faculty, and other services within the facility. Most importantly, they are role models and a support network for fellow residents.
Salary: $100,000 annually. Benefits provided through CCPC.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program.
Ability to obtain Colorado medical licensure
Ability to obtain credentialing at HCA hospitals
Must be able and willing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, medical students, administrative staff, residency faculty and administration, hospital staff, attending physicians, patients, families, and the public and perform high-level decision-making.
Lines of Authority: The chief resident reports to the CCPC leadership and IM Residency Program Director.
If for any reason the Chief Resident is unable to communicate with the Program Director or his or her designee, then the Chief Resident contacts the Designated Institutional Official (DIO).
Communication with the Program Director, Associate Program Director and Program Coordinator is essential for day-to-day operations.
Clinical Responsibilities:
-9 monthly hospitalist shifts to be coordinated with CCPC.
Leadership Development:
-A mentor will be assigned based on the chief resident's desired future career as a researcher, educator, clinician, or other contributor to the profession of medicine.
-Expected to participate in leadership development activities and courses, meet with existing institutional leaders for advice and insight.
-Participate in scholarly work to advance their academic portfolios.
-Development and learning the complexities of crucial conversations, conflict negotiation and resolution.
-Receive ongoing monthly feedback about their development from the Program Director
Represents the Internal Medicine Residency Program:
-Liaisons with and maintains open communications with chief residents from other services.
-Receives concerns from faculty, residents, and other associated personnel and obtains pertinent information
-Contacts the appropriate clinical staff member and Program Director to respond to expressed resident concerns
-Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in performing chief resident tasks
-Attends designated faculty meetings (Thursday Program meeting, PEC, CCC, Residency Education Committees) and other departmental meetings as instructed by the Program Director or the Program Coordinator.
-Attends the GMEC Meetings
-Attends residency leadership meetings and serves as a resident advocate for struggling residents
-Assist with the IM Intern Orientation as needed
-Attends resident RAC meetings
-Participates in Education, Wellness, Recruiting, Diversity and Inclusion Committees as needed
-Participates in resident selection process as needed
-Performs all other duties as requested by faculty and Program Director
Performs Internal Medicine Resident Scheduling:
-Creates the internal medicine yearly rotation schedules (Block Schedule) in coordination with the Associate Program Director and obtains approval of the Block Schedule from the Program Director
-Creates the monthly inpatient medicine rotation, jeopardy and holiday resident schedules that ensure that adequate coverage exists at all times.Schedules must be fair and equitable, ensure that residents are relieved from clinical responsibilities in accordance with all ACGME Duty Hour regulations in coordination with an Associate Program Director.
-Ensures that the ACGME Work Hour regulations and cap regulations are being monitored and are not violated in coordination with program leadership.
-Tracks attendance of residents to all rotations and reports violations to Program Director and Program Coordinator.
Internal Medicine Didactic and Education Development:
-Coordinates and participates in noon conferences and weekly didactics.
-Ensures all ACGME required didactic topics are covered throughout the year.
-Coordinates Patient Safety and Event Analysis Conference and Residency RAC meetings and participates in residency committees
-Maintains record of cases presented
-Development and monitoring procedure and simulation lab based educational program.
-Participates in program development planning for future Internal Medicine goals and objectives
Wellness, Diversity and Inclusion Program:
-Assist in development and participate in the wellness, diversity and inclusion programs in coordination with the residents and program leadership
