Fortuna is a city in west-central Humboldt County, California. The population was 11,926 at the 2010 census, up from 10,497 at the 2000 census. This city on U.S. Route 101 lies on the northeast shore of the Eel River (approximately 9 miles from where it enters the Pacific Ocean). Known as Sunny Fortuna, the city has a large number of events and festivals, such as Art and Wine in the Park, the Annual Fortuna Rodeo, the Logging Competition, Civil War Days, Apple Harvest, the Hops in Humboldt festival, and the Fortuna Concert Series. Holiday events include concerts and parades, and the Eel River is also the locale for the Paddle to the Headwaters canoe race.
