Keeping Springfield and Urbana healthy for more than 100 years

Springfield

For over 100 years, Springfield Regional Medical Center has provided comprehensive medical services for residents of Clark County and surrounding communities.

As Springfield's only full-service hospital, we offer complete care including 24/7 emergency services, maternity services, critical and intensive care, surgery and pediatric care — all provided by skilled doctors and highly trained health professionals.

Here in Springfield we have a very strong physician lead organization made up of 57 providers and growing.  Dr. Paul Buchanan is the physician lead for Springfield Regional Medical Group and Dr. Don Johnson serves as our Chief Clinical Officer at our hospital.

Our hospital is brand new in 2011 and is a vibrant addition to the Springfield Community. The Springfield Regional Medical Center is a 475,000-square-foot, 254-bed, full-service medical facility in Springfield, Ohio. The building includes a four-story patient tower, expanded emergency center, office building, and an open air atrium. The building is clad in brick and stone veneer, prefabricated aluminum panels, and glazed curtain wall and storefront systems. The roofing system is a single-ply EPDM roofing membrane over low-sloped areas. The lower level courtyard has a green roofing system consisting of an extensive vegetated roof assembly installed over a thermoplastic waterproofing system. The large sliding glass doors at the $275 million hospital’s entrance opened for the first time on Nov. 13, 2011, combining two former medical centers. It’s one of the few communities of its size nationwide to build a new medical center in a densely populated urban downtown. Five years later, several local leaders said the project has paid off with improved medical care, job growth downtown and millions of dollars in new investment that might not have otherwise occurred.

Our Hospitals and Medical Group

Fun fact: Springfield Hospital has the busiest ED in the entire Mercy Health System with around 77k visits a year!

Our practice model for primary care is ambulatory only.  We have Hospitalists in both our Mercy Hospitals. Our physicians take office call only and work 36 clinical hours per week.  A standard template is 3 patients per hour, while we do have physicians that choose to see 4-5 per hour and we support them with that by providing extra MA support.  Our work flow is efficient and all of our practices are patient centered.

We have a growing multispecialty group of physicians totaling 58 providers.  Within our communities we have several specialists who are employed as well as independent that work collegially to provide the best possible care to our patients.

We provide comprehensive medical, surgical and emergency care at both our facilities including:

  • Surgical Services
  • Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation
  • 24-Hour Emergency Services
  • Cardiac and Respiratory Care
  • Full Range of Imaging and Laboratory Services
  • Digital Mammography

  • Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy
