Eufaula, Alabama, home of Lake Eufaula, is located on the Chattahoochee River and is known as the Bass Capital of the World. Eufaula boasts a long history and a strong sense of historic preservation. Each year Eufaula hosts many festivals, including the annual historic homes tour known as the Eufaula Pilgrimage. Many of the old homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and have achieved a good deal of press by appearing in the movie Sweet Home Alabama, the March 2004 issue of Southern Lady magazine, the December 1998 issue of Country Inns magazine, and the July/August 1999 issue of This Old House magazine. A small community located near the Alabama-Georgia border, Eufaula is only 46 miles from Columbus, Georgia; 136 miles from Panama City, Florida; and 90 miles from Montgomery, the state capital of Alabama.
