Education is a top priority in Minocqua, with the state of Wisconsin ranking consistently in the top 3 nationally, and our elementary schools ranking higher than state averages. Our children have won or ranked in the top ten in the National Science Foundation Award for Community Innovation numerous times. As a Division I High School, we have the sports programs and extracurricular activities that come with being a large conference school. Children’s programs at Minocqua Public Library keep little ones learning and exploring. Northwoods’ Children’s Museum and the YMCA are a 30 minute drive to Rhinelander, WI.
North Central Conservatory of the Arts, Campanile Center for the Arts, Northern Lights Community Theater, Minocqua Concert Band, the Torpy Park Band Shell and many local art galleries create excellent art and music opportunities for both children and adults. Artists travel great distances to attend Rhinelander School of the Arts and Dillman's Creative Arts Foundation where nationally known artists teach each summer.
The Lakeland area boasts many award winning restaurants-enough to keep the connoisseur happy all year long. Restaurants on the top of the list are: Jacobi’s of Hazelhurst, The Boathouse, Timber Ridge, Mama’s Supper Club, Minocqua Brewing Company, Norwood Pines Supper Club, and the Thirsty Whale – to name a few. The walkable historic downtown area is filled with shops, art galleries, restaurants and coffee shops, and is also home to the Min-Aqua Bats Waterski team, which performs throughout the summer. Timber Ridge, Trout Lake and Minocqua Country Club are a few of our beautiful golf courses; and for movie-goers, Lakeland Cinema has six movie screens. Winterpark Ski Chalet is known around the world for their excellent ski instructors and trails.
When you want to travel out of the area you will have access to the Rhinelander Airport in 30 minutes and the Central WI Airport is 90 minutes away; Madison is a 3 hour drive, Minneapolis/St. Paul is a 4 hour drive, Milwaukee or Chicago is a 5 hour drive and you’re only 90 minutes to the Shores of Lake Superior.
