The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center provides care to over 100,000 Veterans each year in northern Ohio, through the Wade Park medical center, thirteen community based outpatient clinics and three Vet centers. The medical center has been recognized for more programs of excellence than any other VAMC: Open Heart Surgery, Care of the Seriously Mentally Ill, Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Substance Abuse Care, Spinal Cord Injury Care, Medical Care of the Homeless, Domiciliary Care of the Homeless, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Advance Platform Technology, Primary Care Education and Patient-Centered Specialty Care Education The medical center hosts the offices of the VA Regional Counsel, the National Office of Information Service Center, the Office of Resolution Management, and the Chief, Podiatry Services for the VA.

Access points for care include inpatient/outpatient care in Cleveland (Wade Park); outpatient care in Akron, Canton, East Liverpool/Calcutta Lorain, Mansfield, Cleveland (McCafferty), New Philadelphia, Painesville, Ravenna, Sandusky, Warren, Youngstown and Parma (to open February 2012); and three Vet Centers in the Cleveland metropolitan area.

Research programs are funded at more than $20 million annually.
