The Hospital

Located in the heart of Somerset, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is a 295-bed, acute care facility that provides medical services to the people of Pulaski County and surrounding areas. A healthcare leader in the community, the hospital offers a host of services including: comprehensive cardiac care (including open-heart surgery), endocrinology, gastroenterology, comprehensive stroke care and surgical services (including bariatric, ENT, general, orthopedic, neurosurgical, urological, and vascular). The hospital also has women’s and children’s services, an inpatient rehabilitation unit, inpatient hospice, a skilled care unit and a behavioral health unit to provide care for both adult and geriatric patients. In addition, to best serve our patients, the hospital has eight convenient off-site centers that provide outpatient services including: bariatric, cancer treatment, imaging, surgery, wound care and hyperbaric medicine, therapy, and sleep disorders.

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and has earned the following additional accreditations: American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for cancer care, Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, and Advanced Certified Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, as well as American Heart/American Stroke Association “Get With The Guidelines” Silver Plus Target: Stroke Honor Roll Award. We are proud to offer patients access to state-of-the-art technology including: 1.5 tesla MRI, 1.2 tesla Open MRI, 16-and 64-slice CT, Dynamic Targeting® Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) for cancer treatment, and Hyperbaric Chambers for wound care.

The hospital is also pleased to be a teaching facility. Not only do we partner with Somerset Community College and other colleges in the region for students to complete their clinical hours, we also provide a teaching environment for two Residency Programs - Internal Medicine and Family Medicine.

Whether you are looking for an outdoor adventure, a concert, a historical tour, or a relaxing evening taking in the beauty of the lake, Somerset is the place to be.  County seat of Pulaski County, Somerset was first settled in 1798 and over 60 years later was the site of two Civil War battles. Walking and driving tours as well as interpretative exhibits draw history buffs from all across the country to the Mill Springs National Battlefield Visitor Center and Museum.

Over the years, Somerset changed from a sleepy farming town to a bustling railroad town.  Today, we have something for everyone – play a round of golf, pick apples at the local orchard, or visit one of our vineyards and enjoy some delicious Kentucky wine. Live concerts abound in local venues and parks, and the award-winning Masters Musicians Festival is now in its 22nd year.  We have Blues and Barbeque, free Friday night movies under the stars downtown, popular farmer’s markets, festivals galore, and Somernites Cruise, the largest classic car event in Kentucky. There are also numerous antique stores, boutiques and shops with beautiful handcrafted items created by local artists. The city is just minutes away from I-75 and a quick drive to Lexington, with Louisville, Nashville and Knoxville only about 2 hours away.

Somerset is a great place for families, with a beautiful public library, great organized sports and a number of creative and visual arts. Somerset Community College offers associate degree programs and curricula for the first two years toward a bachelor’s degree.  SCC offers several technical programs as well, including one of the few aircraft maintenance programs in the United States.  In addition, there are seven other colleges and universities within 75 miles of Somerset.

Recreation

Somerset is the Gateway to Lake Cumberland, the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River.  Covering more than 63,000 acres with more than 1,200 miles of shoreline, the lake is host to national fishing tournaments and boat races, as well as vacationers and locals who spend leisurely time on a pontoon, houseboat, or fishing boat. Fish for crappie, bass or stripper, go tubing or skiing, or enjoy a thrilling ride on a jet ski. Hike some of the most beautiful trails in the country, go rock climbing at the end of the trail and camp in some of the most picturesque scenery anywhere.  Hunting is also a popular sport as are running and biking events.

There are five 18-hole golf courses located in the county as well as two disc golf courses.  General Burnside Island State Park, Kentucky’s only island state park, and Pulaski County Park offer peaceful retreats for campers, boaters, and fishermen. Just minutes south is Cumberland Falls State Park, known as the Niagara of the South. It boasts the only Moon bow in the Western Hemisphere as well as whitewater rafting, hiking and canoeing. Daniel Boone National Forest also offers exciting outdoor activities with more than 704,000 acres of ridges, ravines, sandstone cliffs and 600 miles of beautiful trails. Somerset is a little bit of heaven for everyone who loves the outdoors.
