Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Logo
Hutchinson is county seat of Reno County as well as the largest city in the county. Located on the Arkansas River just 39 miles northwest of Wichita, its nickname is Salt City because it has been home to salt mines since 1887, but locals call it Hutch. Each year, Hutchinson hosts the Kansas State Fair and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Tournament. It is also the home of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center aerospace museum and Kansas Underground Salt Museum. There is no excuse for sitting home bored in Hutchinson/Reno County. Opportunities for recreation abound. From the water activities at Cheney State Park to the beauty of Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, from area parks to a walk in Sand Hill State Park, there is always something to get you on your feet.
