Lebanon is the county seat of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, and is in the central part of the Lebanon Valley, 26 miles east of Harrisburg and 29 miles west of Reading. The population was 25,477 at the 2010 census, a 4.2 percent increase from the 2000 count of 24,461. Originally settled in 1720 by European colonists, the town was incorporated as a borough in 1821, becoming a city in 1885. Lebanon is one of several Pennsylvania towns that drop or raise a unique item at midnight on New Year's Eve. For Lebanon, that item is a 150-pound Lebanon bologna. With numerous historic buildings, the city has turned the old Market House into a popular indoor market that includes numerous food vendors and restaurants.
