The Hospital

Georgetown Community Hospital is a 75-bed acute care facility that provides medical services to the people of Scott County and surrounding areas. A healthcare leader in the community, the hospital offers a host of services including: allergy, anesthesiology, bariatric surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiology, colorectal surgery, dermatology, emergency department, family practice, gastroenterology, general surgery, hematology/oncology, hospitalist program, inpatient dialysis, internal medicine, nephrology, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics & sports medicine, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonology, pulmonary rehabilitation, radiology, rehabilitation services, respiratory therapy, urology, and women’s services. In addition, the hospital has the following clinics: congestive heart failure clinic, Coumadin clinic, infusion clinic and sleep clinic.

Georgetown Community Hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, is accredited by The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), and is an accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), the accrediting arm of the American College of Cardiology.  The hospital is proud to offer patients access to state-of-the-art technology including: wide-bore MRI, CT, lithotripsy, digital mammography, nuclear medicine, X-ray, ultrasound, ECHO, PET scan, bone density and robotic surgery program. In addition, the hospital has been undergoing a $4.5 million renovation and expansion to improve the patient experience.

The Community

Georgetown is highly noted for its historic homes and perhaps the best antique shopping in the state. Scott County is the fastest growing community in the state, and Georgetown is the seventh largest city in Kentucky. Located at the crossroads of I-75 and I-64, it is ideally located just 10 miles north of Lexington, the Horse Capital of the World. Two larger cities, Louisville and Cincinnati, provide quick access to arts, entertainment, shopping and professional sports.

Georgetown was founded by the Baptist minister Elijah Craig in 1790, best known for his world-famous invention, bourbon whiskey. Today, Georgetown is proud to be the American hometown of Toyota’s Camry, Venza, Avalon and Lexus ES production facility. Georgetown’s rich horse heritage is evident with an annual “Festival of the Horse” held every September to celebrate the role of the horse in the history of Scott County. Georgetown is also home to the annual “Horsey Hundred,” a premier cycling event for the Bluegrass Cycling Club where over 2,000 riders from all over the country and world ride 100 miles throughout the Bluegrass Region.

There are two historic houses open for tours in Georgetown: Ward Hall, a national landmark built circa 1853 that is believed to be the largest Greek Revival House in Kentucky, and Cardome Center, one of the oldest and most historic properties in Scott County that is known for the Sisters of Visitation, an order of cloistered nuns.

Scott County has numerous public and private schools. In addition, located in downtown Georgetown is a private liberal arts college, Georgetown College, which previously served as the training camp for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. Additionally, the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University and Midway University are all located in the surrounding area.

Recreation

Georgetown is located in the heart of Kentucky’s famed Bluegrass Region, otherwise known as horse country. Steeped in tradition and just 10 miles down the road in nearby Lexington, Keeneland Race Course attracts people from around the world for their yearly meets in April and October. At the Kentucky Horse Park, visitors can watch a harness maker at work, enjoy the parade of breeds or take a horse-drawn carriage tour. Also nestled in Georgetown is a 92-acre thoroughbred retirement farm that is home to over 50 former race horses. The farm attracts over 20,000 visitors annually to see former Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners, among others. Scott County offers the opportunity to experience Kentucky’s beauty in the most natural way by horseback riding over trails on 250 wooded acres at the Whispering Woods Riding Stables.

One of Kentucky’s longest creeks, Elkhorn Creek, offers world class kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Evan’s Orchard & Cider Mill and Bi-Water Farm & Greenhouse provide great family farm entertainment along with healthy, farm-fresh fruit and vegetables. The Pavilion is a state-of-the-art community recreation center, and The Suffoletta Family Aquatic Center provides an interactive outdoor family water park for the community. There are dozens of golf courses in the area, including Cherry Blossom, Longview, Canewood Golf Course and University of Kentucky golf course.
