The emergency department is a certified Level-I Trauma Center.

Since July 1997, The George Washington University Hospital has been jointly owned and operated by a partnership between The George Washington University and a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc., of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, one of the nation's largest hospital management companies. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and licensed by the District of Columbia Regulatory Affairs Department.
