Flemingsburg, Kentucky

Located in the northeastern part of Kentucky, Flemingsburg was founded in 1797 by Major George Stockton of Virginia and named for his half-brother, Colonel John Fleming.  Listed among the earliest explorers in the area, the brothers canoed down the Ohio River in 1776 to discover and settle the town.

In 1798, just one year after its founding, Flemingsburg was declared the county seat of Kentucky's 26th county, Fleming County.  Home to three historic, wooden, covered bridges, the town has been known as the Covered Bridge Capital of Kentucky since 1998.

The Hospital

Fleming County Hospital is a 52-bed, acute care facility nestled in the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky, close to the Ohio River.  Established in 1962, the original hospital prospered through the years, and a beautiful new facility was opened in 2008 to accomodate its growth and expansion.

The new hospital features many private rooms, expanded operating rooms, a larger Emergency Department, new state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment and many other enhancements.  The new hospital campus boasts approximately 100,000 sq. ft., which enables its more than 260 staff members to provide quality care to residents of Fleming and surrounding counties.

The Community

The City of Flemingsburg is a small, rural city located in northeastern Kentucky just south of Maysville and north of Morehead.  Nestled in the hills, Flemingsburg is surrounded by rolling farm land.  Proud of its heritage and beauty, the city maintains brick-paved sidewalks and acorn-shaped lamps.  These serve as daily reminders of the city's rich history and the simpler way of life enjoyed by the residents of Flemingsburg.

For more than 200 years, Flemingsburg has served as the county seat of Fleming County.  Its proximity to the AA Highway and I-64 has made Flemingsburg a prime location for industry.  Over the years, the area's rich and fertile land has attracted many Amish and Mennonite families who now call Fleming County home.
