Charlie Norwood Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center (CNVAMC) is a dual-division Veterans Health Administration facility located in Augusta, Georgia. The center provides comprehensive medical, surgical, mental health, and rehabilitative services to eligible veterans residing in eastern Georgia and western South Carolina.
The medical center operates two main campuses:
-
Downtown Division: Located at 950 15th Street, Augusta, GA. This division houses approximately 155 authorized beds and provides acute medicine, surgery, and spinal cord injury services.
-
Uptown Division: Located at 1 Freedom Way, Augusta, GA. This division operates approximately 315 beds, including psychiatry, blind rehabilitation, and medical rehabilitation units, as well as a 132-bed nursing and restorative care unit.
CNVAMC also manages multiple community-based outpatient clinics to improve regional access to veteran healthcare services. The facility maintains academic affiliations with regional universities and training institutions, supporting more than 700 students and residents annually across a range of clinical disciplines.
The center’s mission is to honor America’s veterans by providing high-quality, compassionate, and timely healthcare. Its vision is to be recognized as a national leader in veteran health outcomes, workforce development, and patient satisfaction.
CNVAMC continues to address infrastructure modernization and operational improvement initiatives. The Department of Veterans Affairs is assessing consolidation of selected services from the Downtown Division to the Uptown campus to improve care coordination and facility efficiency. Planned redevelopment efforts also include adaptive reuse of existing buildings to create veteran housing, consistent with federal “Housing First” initiatives to reduce veteran homelessness.
The medical center’s primary focus remains the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care while supporting the VA’s broader mission of enhancing the health and well-being of the veteran population it serves.
