EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

• ED Volume: 11,000 
• 8-bed ED (no separation between main side, fast track; three private rooms, five monitored, curtained rooms); A new ED will be completed in early 2023. 
• 10 monitored closed door rooms with three room fast track using vertical lounge charts is currently under construction and to be completed in March 2023
• ED has priority to 32-slice CT machine
• Primary Stroke Center 
• TPA given with tele-neurology
• 18% pediatric patients 
• 20% admission rate (combined true hospital admits and observation admits) 
• Hospitalists admit 95% of patients in hospital 
• Epic EMR
• ED is its own department 
• Ultrasound machine in ED 
• PACS reading on sight during daytime hours; in Richmond at nights and on weekends; 24-hour lab with 1 hour turnaround time 
• Sedation agents include Propofal, Versed, Ketamine, Etomidate
• RN to patient ratio: 4 RNs to 8 beds (peak); 3 RNs to 8 beds (low) 
• Splinting done by physicians, RNs

• The hospitalist team includes one physician during the day with telemedicine at night
