The Hospital

Bluegrass Community Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility that provides medical services to the people of Woodford County and surrounding areas. A healthcare leader in the community, the hospital offers a host of services including: bone density testing, cardiology, digital mammography, otolaryngology (ENT), emergency department, family medicine, gastroenterology/endoscopy services, general surgery, laboratory services, nuclear medicine, nutritional services, orthopedics & sports medicine, radiology department, respiratory therapy, wound care, IV therapy and rehabilitation services that include physical, occupational and speech.      

Woodford County is quickly growing and developing in population. In order to meet the evolving needs of the community and its patients, the hospital has plans to soon build a new state-of-the-art 25-bed critical access hospital to replace the current facility.

The Community

Versailles is located just off the Martha Layne Collins Parkway (Bluegrass Parkway) and is nestled in Central Kentucky eight miles from Lexington and the state capital of Frankfort. Two larger cities, Louisville and Cincinnati, provide quick access to arts, entertainment, shopping and professional sports. Versailles is one of Kentucky’s oldest and most beautiful towns with numerous antique shops, historic southern homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The “Versailles Twilight Festival,” held in downtown Versailles every August, features food vendors, wineries, arts and crafts, horse demonstrations, children’s activities and free live entertainment. Woodford County also hosts the “Midway Fall Festival,” held in downtown Midway every September.

Versailles is located in Woodford County, the heart of horse country. Throughout the area are stunning horse farms that have hosted presidents and royalty. These horse farms serve as birth places and permanent homes to many famous thoroughbreds including recent Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah. Settled in the spectacular landscape of the gorgeous horse farms is CastlePost, a medieval-style luxury hotel that offers upscale amenities in the middle of horse country. Woodford County is home to Kentucky’s oldest bourbon whiskey distillery, Labrot & Graham (established 1812), maker of Woodford Reserve.

Woodford County has both public and private schools. Midway University, an independent, liberal arts university with approximately 1,800 students, is located in Woodford County and offers a combination of associate’s, bachelor and master’s degrees.   

Recreation

Steeped in tradition and just eight miles down the road in nearby Lexington, Keeneland Race Course attracts people from around the world for their annual meets in April and October. At the Kentucky Horse Park, visitors can watch a harness maker at work, enjoy the parade of breeds or take a horse-drawn carriage tour. There’s also Lakeside Arena, the area’s largest competitive horse show arena.

Woodford Hills Country Club and The Brook (Cabin Brook) offer challenging play for golfers at all skill levels. Located at Woodford County Park, Falling Springs is a state-of-the-art community recreation center. Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center is completed with three basketball courts, indoor pool, therapy pool, outdoor splash pool, fitness center, aerobics room, group cycling room, meeting rooms and a 310 seat performing arts theater.   

The Bluegrass Railroad Museum, located in an historic 1911 L & N Railroad Station, features a six-mile roundtrip ride through gently rolling hills. The museum also displays antique model trains, antique toys and railroad memorabilia. Located above U.S. 62 and crossing the Kentucky River between Woodford and Anderson Counties is the Young’s High Bridge built in 1889. Passengers disembark during the Bluegrass Railroad ride to enjoy the view and listen to the history of the bridge told by the Conductors. Young’s High Bridge overlooks the Wild Turkey Distillery, Tyrone Quarry and Kentucky River. Consisting of 374 acres along the Kentucky River, the Clyde E. Buckley Sanctuary features native flora and fauna. The sanctuary is the only area in Kentucky managed by the National Audubon Society.
