Winder has a long and fascinating history. From the discovery of the Native American village of Snodon in the years following the Revolutionary War to the incorporation of the town of Jug Tavern and on to its renaming as Winder in 1893, Winder has developed from a small outpost for settlers to a city at the crossroads of northeast Georgia. Located approximately 50 miles northeast of the center of Atlanta, Winder is the county seat of Barrow County, Georgia. This suburb to Metro-Atlanta is steeped in tradition and rich history.
