Avera Queen of Peace is a member of Avera Health, a regional family of more than 300 healthcare facilities in het five state region. with over 13,000 employees, Avera Health has over two million clinic and inpatient visits each year at facilities known for medical excellence, technological innovation, and a commitment to meeting the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of all patients.

Avera Queen of Peace is a 85 bed, non-profit, Catholic facility and the regional medical center for the rural communities.  The hospital's Emergency Department  is a Level III certified trauma center, the hospital has 5 OR suites & 2 minor procedure rooms, 8 bed ICU, eICU, same day services, 3 labor delivery rooms with 9 postpartum rooms, Level III nursery, pediatrics, surgical & medical floors.     With over 50 physicians on staff in 18 medical specialites, and 800 employes serving over 26,000 people  for primary care and 115,000 for specialty services. The hosptial offers a full range of services including medical oncology, radiation oncology, general surgery, orthopedics, Ob/gyn, urology, ENT, anesthesiology,  ophthalmology, and primary care.   Our current expansion project includes a brand new physician's clinic building.

Education

The Mitchell community is very proud to offer public or private education.  The public school system offers 3 elementary schools, middle school, and high school, with an abundance of athletic and fine arts activities. The Mitchell Christian School is a nondenominational offering pre-k through grade 12 education. John Paul II is available for catholic elementary education.  Mitchell is also home to Dakota Wesleyan University, a private Methodist college and Mitchell Technical Institute.
