ABOUT THE FACILITY
Mercy Hospital & Medical Center (MHMC) has the distinction of being Chicago’s first hospital and first chartered teaching hospital. Since 1852, MHMC has been caring for Chicago. With 479 licensed beds, MHMC is a community medical center with a commitment of improving the health and wellbeing of its communities. Its community-based legacy and mission extends beyond its walls into the diverse neighborhoods and communities it serves.
Mercy Health System of Chicago (MHS) offers a comprehensive network that includes 11 auxiliary care facilities, MercyWORKS occupational health program, two school-based health centers in Wendell Phillips and Dunbar Vocational Career Academies, Mercy Medical Group (MMG), and the Mercy Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of the hospital. MMG is comprised of 85 physicians representing over 20 medical specialties at 11 sites.
In addition, MHMC holds academic affiliations with University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and its sister Trinity Health facility, Loyola University Medical Center. Its medical residency programs include internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, and podiatry, and trains more than 100 residents each year, including independent residencies in emergency medicine, surgery, and radiology.
